Bake Austin Kids Camp Makes Egg Cakes

Today we made egg cake, cake inside an egg
(laughter). You open them up, there’s no, like, gooey
stuff, it’s … CAKE! First we poked holes in one end of the egg
and tried to … and we got all the egg on the inside out of the shell into bowls. When we touched the egg it was … it was
like pure slime (laughter). It was very slimy. OK … So I am just going to soak these in
here for just a few minutes, then rinse them off, and we are going to mise-en-place for
our cake. Who knows what mise-en-place means? Getting the ingredients and measuring them,
right? Very good! (wow!) Then we got, we made the cake batter …
So you mix the sugar and butter, that causes creamanization
Then when that was done we put in all the other ingredients to make the cake batter
And don’t go any higher than four on (the mixer), otherwise, like, you know, MESS! (crackling noise) Alright, we have our little aluminum nests
… … not gallium, because gallium destroys
aluminum … (counting) one two three four five six seven
eight nine ten eleven twelve … So we have eighteen eggs. How many eggs do each of you get? Can you guys figure that out? Ummm….
(it’s okay) Oh! Six! Because, like, six plus six is twelve and
then when I add another six it equals eighteen …
And then you set your oven (preheated) to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then you put them in (the eggs) for eight
minutes. And then you’ve got some perfectly good eggs. Place them upside down to make it look like
they’re just normal eggs … And so some unsuspecting person will walk
up and be like … it’s CAKE!
