Braised Brussels Sprouts – Pick It, Try It, Like It

Braised brussels sprouts with mustard butter are one way to enjoy fruits and vegetables. The ingredients you will need for braised brussels sprouts include brussels sprouts, salt, water, margarine or butter, Dijon mustard, ground black pepper. When selecting brussels sprouts choose those that are small and firm. Brussels sprouts are fat-free and high in potassium and Vitamin C. Before beginning wash all brussels sprouts then check each head and peel off any discoloured leaves using a paring knife. Cut an x through the core end of each head. Place sprouts in water and salt in a 2-quart Saucepan bring to boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling lower heat cover and simmer. Shake pan once or twice during cooking to roll the sprouts. Cook until just tender about 8 to 10 minutes, Test for doneness by piercing with a paring knife tip at the stem end. It should enter the sprout with a slight resistance. Drain well. Melt butter in a large skillet on medium heat stir in mustard until smooth. Cook stirring constantly until smooth and creamy about 30 seconds. Add spouts to skillet coating wall with the butter mixture season to taste with salt and pepper and serve. Recipe makes three or four servings of braised Brussels sprouts with mustard butter.
