Braised Green Cabbage – Pick It, Try It, Like It


[music] Pick It, Try It, Like It: Preparing Vegetables and Fruits. Consuming fruits and vegetables can help youth and adults improve their health. Braised green cabbage with garden vegetables is one way to enjoy fruits and vegetables. Ingredients needed for braised green cabbage with garden vegetables include green cabbage, onion, medium bell pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, garlic powder olive or vegetable oil, water or chicken stock, and salt and pepper. Cabbage is rich in vitamin C, and a good source of fiber though it must remain cold in order to retain Vitamin C. Cabbage also may decrease the risk of certain types of cancer. To begin wash cabbage and cut into quarters and shred thinly. Chop onions and red bell pepper and set aside. Using a large 5 quart saucepan with a lid heat the pan over medium-high heat for a few seconds or until hot. Add oil to hot pan and immediately add onions and bell peppers. Cook and stir for about 1 minute, Add one half of the shredded cabbage, stir for another 30 seconds, add crushed red pepper and garlic powder. Continue to cook and stir for 15 seconds, add two handfuls of cabbage stirring for about 30 seconds. Continue adding the remaining cabbage and stirring at 30-second intervals until all of the cabbage is in the pot. Add water or chicken stock and cover immediately. Continue cooking for 10 minutes stirring occasionally to keep from sticking, add more water if necessary. Serve and enjoy!
