– [MANLEY] Navajo people were basically given tin meat, lard, sugar, salt and flour. And that became the staple diet. We have a complicated relationship with fry bread. It’s sort of a symbol of perseverance. We persevered from concentration camps to survival. – [LILLIE] Our body wasn’t built to consume the kind of food that came with the Anglo. When the Anglo people came out with the trading posts, and all that, you know, they said, “Stick to making your food, your own food.” – [NONA] And we didn’t know. We didn’t have no idea. – [ANDEE] It’s kind of scary because you don’t know what you’re gonna find and how people are gonna be affected. – [NONA] Right now, I’m concerned for the whole community.
