(upbeat music) – [Narrator] Two minutes of
information, entertainment, and events in Atlanta and beyond. This is The Daily 2. – I’m Shannon Walshe with The Daily 2. With me is Jacquie Palisi, Family Safety Advocate
from Montlick & Associates. Welcome Jacquie. – Thanks Shannon. – July is National Grilling Month. What advice do you have, Jacquie, to keep families safe
while cooking outdoors? – There are some simple, but
important, steps to take. These are detailed in our
Guide to Safe Outdoor Cooking, available at montlick.com. For example, be sure to
locate your grill on a flat, non-flammable surface, like
a stone patio or driveway, at least 10 feet away from your
house, garage and any trees. When using a gas grill, follow
manufacturer’s instructions for checking the connection between the propane tank and the fuel line. And never grill in enclosed areas. That could result in
carbon monoxide poisoning. – Jacquie, what about folks who use charcoal grills and smokers? – When using starter fluid,
follow package directions and never pour starter
fluid on a burning fire. And no matter what type of grill you use, always have a working
fire extinguisher nearby. – Any tips specifically for parents? – We recommend parents create
a safety zone around the grill and instruct kids not to cross it. If your grill is on a hard
surface like a patio or driveway, you can use chalk to draw the
safety zone around the grill. – Sound advice. Thank
you Montlick & Associates for your commitment to family safety. These and many other important
safety tips can be found in the firm’s Guide to
