High school culinary students wage cupcake battle

students from more than a dozen San Antonio area schools coming together for a sweet culinary competition that puts their creativity to the test the cupcake battle held at st. Peter’s Square across the street from Sunset Station and as these students learned creating the perfect cupcake goes well beyond the flavor in the frosting I decided to make a green tea matcha cupcake with a vanilla honey buttercream frosting it tastes like a macho latte I made like 32 batches in order to make sure it tasted fine my toppy and I do candy bacon for the cupcake you put 1/4 of a cup of bacon grease that’s like your secret ingredient I guess you could say they judge on creativity the best cake the best frosting and the most technically difficult because some of them really do put a lot of effort into their cupcakes it’s more than just the cupcake competition that’s a really great opportunity for the students not only to showcase their skills but learn about educational opportunities as well as career opportunities good food always brings people together I like to spread love muscle food is so my cupcake it is a cherry cupcake with cream cheese frosting my first cupcake was a maraschino cherry cupcake and it was very interesting hadn’t tried one before I just wanted to keep it simple I feel like simplicity is something that we don’t see in competitions often enough I feel like being simple is the best way to go the cupcake was really nice I think it could have used a little bit more batter to give it a little bit more height to the cupcake and the icing was very simple so it just looks probably where it would be a good improvement I just hope to better myself i cooking and learn from this experience and see what I can improve on put in hard work you get a good results may the best cupcake win
