How to brew oolong tea – best tips for brewing unknown tea | Gonfu brewing | ZhenTea


hi everybody welcome back to tea with
Phil and Zhen today I’m going to walk you through how to brew a mystery along it’s
our next installment in our intuitive brewing series and then we’re going to
give you the tools tips and hacks on what you do when you’re presented with a
tea that you’re not entirely sure even what it is well you’ve just got the tea
in front of you and you want to do your best step brewing it let’s get started alright so let’s get brewing I’ve got my
mystery along here so the most important thing you need to determine when you’re
dealing with the mystery tea is what a what liquor color are we going to be
looking for so to do that we’ve got to examine the dry leaf so I can see here
I’ve got a fairly green oolong and you’re basically looking at two
categories of wrong in this case you bet your dreamy lungs or your lighter lungs
and your darker ones your lighter lungs are going to render something like a
yellow gold liquor your dark oolong something more in the orange and darker
orange tones the other thing I’m going to have a quick peek at is the role of
the leaf this leaf is pretty tight pretty nicely rolled so I’m going to
factor that in when I come up with my ski time so let’s give it a rinse and
get going all right and for the factors like a steep time leaf amount check the
links up above oK we’ve covered those in our intuitive brewing series definitely
go ahead and check those out so I’ll just give this a quick rinse and then I will start on the first
infusion okay so I’ve already had a look at the leaf to determine my liquor color
I’ve looked at how rolled it is for this particular tea I’m targeting somewhere
around 30 maybe 45 seconds so I’ll just wait I’ll let it infuse so as I get
close to this deep time I’m going to have a little peak and it looks pretty
good it’s in this sort of zone that I’m looking for take our infusion out and
now we will simply taste assess and adjust let’s have a taste nice aroma I think I did a pretty good job at this
the flavor is there and I think I’m going to just probably have a slightly
quicker infusion on the next one because the leaf has started to unroll quite
nicely let’s do it this one will literally just be a few
seconds I can see that the liquor colors already there all right so to recap basically when
we’re brewing what we’re dealing with an unknown oolong we need to assess the dry
leaf in order to establish what the liquor color should be when we’re
finished our infusion we also want to look at how tightly rolled the lease is
and then simply get to it brew your tea taste assess and adjust so get out there
get brewing get lots of experience within long it’s delicious and have fun
