Independent counsel grilling culture minister, ex-presidential chief of staff

Moving on to the investigation by the independent
counsel… Kim Ki-choon, the former presidential chief
of staff, and Cho Yoon-sun, the current culture minister, are being questioned about their
alleged involvement in the blacklisting of cultural figures deemed critical of the government. Minister Cho was the first to arrive and offered
a single comment. “I will fully cooperate with the special prosecutors’
investigation. I hope the probe gets to the bottom of the
truth.” Kim arrived less than 30 minutes later but
declined to make any remarks. Both are being grilled as suspects on allegations
of perjury and abuse of power. They are suspected of being involved in the
creation of a blacklist of about a thousand cultural figures deemed critical of the government. The list was intended to block them from receiving
state support and sponsorship. Both have continued to deny the allegations.
