Lake Charles Local: Crying Eagle Brewing, Co.

The vision for Crying Eagle started
six years ago, whenever we were out at a bachelor party in Houston. We all went
out to St. Arnold’s Brewing Company and then it was there where I was just
completely mesmerized by the beauty of the tanks, the engineering, in addition
that the beer. You know, the beer was so good. It was artisan, it was craft. You
know there was a world of great beer out there that I had never really been
exposed too. Craft beer brewing is a culture. They represent their community. They represent their people. You know this by often the names of the beers or the names of the breweries themselves. Crying Eagle was the name of the
Atakapa Indian chief, upon which our parish is named after, Chief Quelqueshue.
Which loosely translates to “crying eagle.” Early on we would brew batches of beer
and micro quantities. You know, enough for about a five gallon batch of beer that would maybe serve a couple dozen people at a party. Today we’re brewing
thirty barrel batches of beer. Which almost equates to around a thousand
gallons of beer or 10,000 cans for every batch of beer we brew. What we want to do is continue on what we are today. We want to be a culture. We want to be an
experience. We’ve got an amazing taproom. You can come and experience all
that we are. We’ve got a great restaurant. We’ve got gourmet gift baskets, but
again it’s all tied into the experience that you get here. We’ve got an amazing
gift shop here. We’ve got all sorts of unique items that that are all beer
related. And no brewery is complete without its own beer garden. A place that you can go outside, drink a beer, enjoy the nice weather. Additionally we’ve got
a really cool loft for upstairs and you can come out hang out listen to some
live music on the patio and really enjoy yourself. Our second floor loft can accommodate almost a hundred people for their
special event. It’s got great views of the production space and also its own
private bar that they can put two special beers that they want for their
guests right here up on tap. We also do unique things, like
grow our own hops for experimental batches of beer. It’s a great way to
educate people on the beer making process. We try to always keep something
fun and unique happening at our brewery all the time. Whether its beer yoga, car
shows, even fun festive events like a German style Oktoberfest. I think Crying Eagle Brewing epitomizes the spirit of Southwest Louisiana. I mean we are our
culture. We are kind of an epicenter of fun and arts and entertainment. When you
come here in the communal seating and sitting next to people you’ve never met
your life but feeling it like you’ve known each other forever you never meet
a stranger when you’ve come to Crying Eagle Brewing. And that’s the spirit you feel when you come here and that’s why Crying Eagle Brewing is a must stop on
your itinerary, when you visit Southwest Louisiana.
