Mythos: A Trilogy by Stephen Fry | 2019 International Festival

It’s three different shows, you don’t
have to have been to one to see the other. They all I think stand alone. It’s a trilogy, we’re calling it the Mythos trilogy
because that’s the first of the shows. It tells the story of the creation of the world and the first deities, the first supernatural entities that then become the Gods that you
may have heard of, the Olympians and it’s the struggle against the Titans, the War of the Titans, and it’s then the creation of mankind the wonderful story of Prometheus
the Titan who created us and Pandora who was sent down as a punishment. Then there are the kind of just so stories, the stories of how things came to be the way they are like the story of Arachne who was a wonderful weaver and was so foolish as to challenge the goddess to a competition in weaving and she was
punished for her audacity by being turned into a spider who would weave for
the rest of her life and forever and ever which is my spiders are called
arachnids after Arachne. The second show is called Heroes, it’s about the great heroes of Greek mythology many of whom you’ll have heard of,
Hercules who the Greeks called Heracles and Perseus who cut off the head of the Gorgon Medusa and then finally there’s Men and that’s the extraordinary story of the Trojan War which has great heroes like Achilles of course and the homeward journey of Odysseus and it’s about storytelling, it’s as simple as
that, really storytelling at its heart and the Greek for story is Mythos.
