Rick Smilow: Citymeals on Wheels is a great
organization, unique in New York City. I’d say ICE has been a supporter of this event
for 15 to 20 years. We probably have twenty, thirty student volunteers here tonight and
they get the chance to work with some of the biggest name chefs in America. It attracts
chefs all over the nation, people like Alice Waters, Rick Bayless, Wolfgang
Puck. From these experiences they make connections, sometimes it turns into an opportunity for
an externship. And, on top of that, I’d say they have a lot of fun.
Cory Rom: Working with your students has been great. They come into this thing with a lot
of enthusiasm, and they take direction very, very well. And you can tell that they really
care a lot about it. They’ve been great. Whatever you guys are doing over there, you’re
doing it very well. Laura Velez-Paz: I am here tonight with Chef
Scott Conant from Scarpetta in Los Angeles. This is my second time volunteering at an
event this year. You get to taste a little bit here and there so it’s really fun.
Anton Marchuk: This is the first time I’m volunteering with this kind of event. I think
it’s very useful for culinary students because we get to know people and learn more about
the food and it’s certainly a very good benefit for my future culinary career. [Group] ICE! ICE!
