PARTNERSHIP OF COUNTY, STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES THAT BEGAN IN
NORTH CAROLINA IN 1914. THE IDEA WAS TO EDUCATE THE
PUBLIC ABOUT NEW METHODS IN AGRICULTURE AND FOOD
PRESERVATION. IN MORE THAN 100 YEARS,
COOPERATIVE EXTENSION HAS EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MANY ASPECTS

BELT AND POLK COUNTY IS A SMALL, RURAL COUNTY. WE HAVE ABOUT 20,000 PEOPLE
POPULATION-WISE AND VERY BEAUTIFUL ROLLING HILLS. I WORK A LOT WITH THE FARMERS. I’M INVOLVED IN TEACHING CLASSES

BEEN GOING ON PROBABLY FOR ABOUT 30 YEARS. IT WAS STARTED BACK IN THE LATE
80S BY A GENTLEMAN NAMED J. E. PARKS. WE WANTED TO OFFER SOME KIND OF
PROGRAM WHERE MEN COULD LEARN TO COOK BECAUSE A LOT OF THE MEN,
BEING RETIREES, MIGHT HAVE FOUND THEMSELVES IN A POSITION WHERE
THEY NEEDED TO COOK AND HAD NEVER COOKED. WE REALLY FOCUS ON THE COOKING
PART SO I DON’T TAKE ‘EM TO THE STORE AND WE DON’T SHOP, BUT WE
DO MAINLY THE PREP WORK AND LEARNING TO USE THE EQUIPMENT
