Roasting Coffee at Home | Grill Method

Do you like coffee
does it fuel your day in today’s video I’ll show you how to roast your own
coffee using a charcoal or gas grill and a taste will surprise you many things in
life are much better done by hand roasting coffee at home is no exception
roasting one or two pounds at a time produces just about the best coffee
you’ll ever have there are many ways roast at home in fact you could just use
a road a mesh roasting basket or a pot hot air popcorn popper so let’s get
started start your charcoal grill and let the coals ash over you will need as
much charcoal as you would in cooking your wings or burgers I’m using about
two pounds here we want to reach a temperature of 400 and better pour the
raw unroasted beans into the frying pan placed directly over the coals
stir the being slowly and continuously it’s about seven to ten minutes you will
hear a popping sound like popcorn this is the first step and is called the
first crack this will last about a minute and a half the moisture again and
the bean is escaping and this is why you hear the crack on once first practice
seems to be slowing down the color the beans will start rapidly changing you
are now at a medium rope and the beans are a chocolate-brown
at this point I’m going to remove beans and coast to a full row while the beans
are pulling and immediately dump the beans into a colander or screen shake
the beans back and forth this will remove the chafe or flaky skin from
roasting and cool the beans stopping the roasting put the beans in the container and let
them sit for 48 hours if it is completely airtight vent every
once in a while during that time you don’t have to wait 48 hours but as time
goes on the taste will change slightly a simple way to roast your own coffee
beans and roasting coffee in this way is a lot of fun and it’s an another excuse
to fire up the grill and experiment with flavors try stopping the roasting at
different times and your coffee flavor will change as well also try different
beans there read the origin will also play a factor in the overall taste show
