Small Town Brewery Success

Small Town Brewery Success

Beer production is a 100 billion dollar market in America today. Recently lawmakers have proposed a bill to help this hot industry in creating more cold ones. Good company, late night pizza and draft beer. These are things that can bring people together in a college town like Grand Forks. But there has been a recent trend that is steering consumers away from their domestic drink of choice. “The microbrew industry is kind of the best of both worlds because you have the older people who like to sit down and have a few beers and the younger people that just want to try something new.” According to the National Brewers Association there was a 17.2 rise in craft brew sales in 2013 alone- which lead to co owner of Rhombus Guys pizza Aaron Hendricks decision to buy a old opera house with a lot of character and turn it into a new brewery. “There has been a big explosion in the craft beer scene and we would be the only place in grand forks so we thought it would be a perfect time” The small brewer Reinvestment and expanding workforce act was introduced in January and aims to reduce excise tax on beer for small brewers. This would allow them to use the savings to reinvest into the company and make dreams like Aarons a reality. “It would be a benefit to me from a financial standpoint, lowering taxes is always a good thing for us and North Dakota is in a pretty good situation right now so hopefully it goes” Many of the fastest growing breweries are those that are pushing into less saturated areas such as smaller towns like Grand Forks. But money is always a factor for success. “Anywhere we can save money operationally- provides us a little more secuirty that way we will be open for years years and years” Aaron doesn’t know if the bill will be passed-but he does know that barrel of people are excited for this new brewpub. Reporting for Studio one, Im morgan Goulding. Aaron says there’s still a lot of work to do but he and his co-owner hope to have Rhombus Guys Brewing Company open sometime this May. That’s the news for now…
