Why Revolution Brewing Chose KegID Keg Tracking & Kegspediter Keg Management

Here at Revolution Brewing, we are Chicago’s
largest independent craft brewer, which we take a lot of pride in. We opened this facility up after about a year
of the pub being open. Now we’ve got capacity to do around 150,000
barrels a year here. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the
decision to go with KegID, and I knew the importance – to be able to know where our
kegs are. The worst thing you can have happen is have beer and have nowhere to put it. But to be able to have KegID from day one
– so when we started producing and filling kegs, it was all going into the system. It was huge for us. The guys on the floor are using it to double-check
production. The guys in shipping are using it to double-check
where their kegs are going. Any time we have a quality issue with a keg,
we can look it up by barcode and confirm for sure what that beer was and what the date
was. KegID definitely helps with the quality of
our beer. For instance, if we were to do a sour beer,
we can identify that keg to be cleaned separately and to be cleaned twice, so that we can make
sure that there’s no cross-contamination with our core beers. The maintenance portion – it’s great, we’re
able to solve problems before they happen. And that leads to less pouring problems in
the market – less occurrences where a bartender’s putting a keg on and it’s either not pouring
at all or not pouring properly. And to be able to prevent those issues, instead
of just reacting to them, and be proactive about it is really important. The great thing is that we can scale it. It can handle as many kegs as we throw at
it or care to ship. As we keep adding distributors, that also
adds a lot of complexity. And it’s just that much more important to
know what every distributor has and see when distributors need to return kegs. As we do grow and go into new markets, Kegspediter
is a great option for us- to be able to pick up smaller amounts of cooperages and have
them be consolidated without us having to go through all the logistics. And to also make our distributors happy, so
that they’re not holding on to as many of our kegs, ’cause the longer that keg is gone,
the less chance you’re going to get it back. And without your kegs, no one gets to enjoy
your beer. No one gets to go to the bar and enjoy pints
of the beer they want to drink, which we hope is Revolution beer. As Revolution continues to grow, we continue
to grow more supplier relationships, and KegID and SLG have been a major part in that – allowing
us to make what we do easier as it gets bigger and bigger.
