Within Reach: Raices Brewing Company

– There are over 6,200
craft brewers in the U.S. That number keeps increasing every year because of the popularity of craft beers. Out of craft beers, less
than 1% are minority owned, so we saw an opportunity for
us to establish a brewery which could cater to the Latino market, which consumes over 14% of
the overall beer market. My name is Jose Beteta, and
I am the owner and founder of Raices Brewing Company. (upbeat music) Raices is starting in the basement, in the basement of our house, and that’s where we started brewing and we’ve been brewing for a year. The project itself started two years ago, taking our product to the streets, to festivals, to tastings,
and now we’re getting ready to have a venue very soon. – My vision for this after
Jose came with the idea of the brewery was a
platform for so many things that are needed in our community. We are lacking in presentational
spaces where Latinos can connect and can be with
each other and can feel that they can identify with the space. – Since I’ve come from
Costa Rica and my partners are Puerto Ricans, I wanted to include those cultures as well and
just kind of conglomerate this beautiful set of cultures
that come from all over a whole continent, including in the U.S.,
and put that idea together to create Raices. (upbeat music) – Me being a self-educated,
self-taught brewer, you gotta put a lot on the line, and you gotta use a
combination of your knowledge, your savviness, your skills, and then you pre-calculate
and you use the science part and the numbers part to
put you in the ballpark. But eventually, you will not know when a beer is ready until you taste it. A beer, you have to make
it two, three, four tries. – It’s an art. It’s a science. To be able to create
something from scratch and then offering it to people, something that is unique,
it’s very fulfilling. So this is sort of like our first draft of what Raices is gonna look like. When you come in, what you’re
gonna see is these colors plus a little bit more Latin American, vibrant colors and sounds and energy. – [Tamil] We were very excited
to get the right space. We were looking for some time. – So the future of Raices
in the next two years we’re looking at opening our brewery, which is going to be 6,060 square feet, right next to the Broncos Stadium. – And also be part of the neighborhood that is gonna be developed there. – As soon as you step into Raices, it feels like you’re
actually stepping out, stepping outside into nature. – So on this other side
we’re gonna have the kitchen. We have the bathrooms
and then a leading hall towards the patio that
is gonna be up front. – The brewhouse is going to
be right here, by the way. This will be a big glass window right here where people can see from outside in. Raices means roots. It’s talking more about
our cultural heritage. – I really envisioned
something that was much more than just a brewery. This brewery is just a tool, also, to actually bring people
together and connect, and I saw this place as a
possibility to doing that. Not only with Latinos, but everyone that wants to actually
experience the Latin culture and be able to value who we are. (laughing) Cheers everyone!
